A Coit Towerless Telegraph Hill on the East side in the 1800’s. Toward the end of the Nineteenth Century a rock quarry was established on the hill forever changing its gentle slope on the Bay side. This was stopped in 1910 because of public outcry, but it still makes the Filbert Steps much more dramatic to climb up or walk down. (Thumbnail image)
