At top, the old Fleishhacker’s Pool and Pool house in 1970 when they closed. The middle picture was taken in September of 2012. The pool was filled in and is now the parking lot of the San Francisco Zoo. “Form the wagons in a circle!” The Urbano Sundial in the Ingleside District is said to be the largest sundial in the world. This location used to be the Ingleside Track for horse racing. I took this picture at 12:53. At first, I thought the sun was an hour late, and then I remembered that it was Daylight Savings Time, and you can’t move sundials forward one hour. (Thumbnail image)
San Francisco’s last duel, the David Broderick and David Terry duel, occurred in this little ravine near Lake Merced in September, 1859. David Broderick got the short end of the stick, and was shot dead.. The two concrete markers in the picture are where the two men were standing. Outta the road, kid!” Filbert Street with Saints Peter and Paul Church: Just up from this point, Filbert becomes the steepest street in San Francisco!
Wow, it’s a 1939 Taylor Swift concert! Oh, sorry, it’s Pierre Monteux at the old Opera House. That’s the dome of City Hall reflecting in the windows.
“No, honey, the bridge is over there!” The old Roundhouse Restaurant, later gift shop, now stands empty.
I’m in awe of anybody who can ride their bikes straight up a cliff! The Great Highway and Ocean Beach from Sutro Heights; That’s Playland-at-the-Beach in the old photo.
The Embarcadero at Broadway in the 1950’s: Pier 7 was demolished for a walking pier. You can just see a piece of the Embarcadero Freeway where it ended at Broadway on the far right of the old photo. (Thumbnail image)
